Philip Lee Solicitors has unparalleled experience advising both public and private clients on planning and environmental law issues arising in a variety of sectors, including transport, construction, energy, waste, environmental services, quarrying, marine and sub-sea projects, housing commercial and retail and local authority projects.
Alice Whittaker heads up the firm’s dedicated planning & environmental team, which has recently advised on a range of energy projects including the proposed East-West Interconnector; a proposed sub-sea marine observatory project off the South West of Ireland; off and on-shore wind farm projects; and proposed facilities for the production of alternative fuels. The team has also advised on the Dublin and South East Region Waste Management Plans; the proposed Dublin Waste to Energy Project; the proposed Fingal Landfill and a number of other significant waste management projects in the Dublin and South East Regions. In relation to conservation and habitats, the team has advised on a cross-border initiative between Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council for the management and conservation of beaches and their environs; the Clew Bay Oyster Co-operative in relation to protection of Shellfish Waters in Clew Bay; and residents in an area affected by severe coastal erosion off the South East coast of Ireland.
The team also provides expert advice to private sector clients involved in major infrastructure and development projects on a range of issues including waste and IPPC licensing; Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment; climate change assessments; regional and strategic planning guidelines; environmental liabilities; judicial review and planning injunctions; compulsory acquisition and compensation; and the application of key new provisions under the Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) Act 2006 and related Regulations.
Alice Whittaker has published texts on planning law and competition law, and articles on environmental liability and enforcement, development contribution schemes under the Strategic Infrastructure Act and the planning regime for prisons under the Prisons Act 2006.
